American Muslims Defend Religious Freedom

OLATHE, KS. Jan. 24, 2012 – In the past couple of years, a group of conservative pundits, analysts and bloggers have identified Shariah, or Islamic religious law, as a growing threat to the United States. These pundits and analysts argue that the steady adoption of Shariah’s tenets is a strategy extremists are using to transform the United States into an Islamic state. The main purpose behind their agenda is to generate Islamophobia and the perception that Islam and Muslims shouldn’t be part of the American Society.  But what is quite amazing is that the vast majority who argue against Shariah know very little or nothing of what it is, its definition, its scope or even the processes of implementation.

To help our fellow American brothers and sisters understand about Shariah and to remove misconception and fear of Shariah, Islamic Circle of North America, Kansas City Chapter (ICNA-KC), has launched a campaign in Kansas City. In Islam, Shariah is the religious teachings that the Creator (Allah) has prescribed on His creation, which includes the deeds, sayings and decisions of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Shariah governs the different spheres of the life of a Muslim such as worship (Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage), Dealing with others (being honest, fulfilling oaths, being loyal & trust worthy, and having good ties with one's kindred).  Shariah also includes forbidding murder, fornication or adultery, and all harmful acts on people or animals. Shariah also teaches people to stay away from all low and immoral acts and from all that could demean their honor as human beings.

During this campaign, which runs from Jan 23rd 2012 until Feb 19th 2012, ICNA Kansas City will air messages on Shariah through KMBZ 980 AM (Radio) and post a billboard on Shariah at I-70 and 38th street. The campaign messages are expected to reach over 200K people per week. The messages will invite the public to call 1-855-SHARIAH hotline or visit our website at http://defendingreligiousfreedom.com to learn and ask questions about Shariah and Islam. The visitors to the website and the callers to the hotline can request a free copy of the English translation of the Quran and other free literature on Islam and Shariah.

Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), parent organization of Islamic Circle of North America – Kansas City Chapter and the sponsor of Defending Religious Freedom project, is one of the largest, non-profit, independent, and grassroots organization of American Muslims with several chapters and affiliates across the nation. American Muslims Launch Public Awareness Campaign

American Muslims Launch Public Awareness Campaign in Ramadan

OLATHE, KS. Aug. 16, 2010 – Islamic Circle of North America, Kansas City Chapter (ICNA-KC), is launching a public awareness campaign in the month of Ramadan (9th month of Islamic Lunar Calendar). Muslims from all over the word fast everyday from dawn till dusk during the entire month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of deep reflection and understanding of responsibilities between Almighty God and His creation. One of the key responsibilities of the American Muslims at this time is to reach out to our neighbors and fellow Americans to dispel the misconceptions about Islam and know one another better to improve harmony and peace among the citizens of this great country. Almighty God says in the Qur’an: “O Mankind, We created you all from a single male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another [and not despise one another]. Verily the noblest of you in the sight of God is the most righteous of you. Surely God is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (Qur’an – 49:13)

As part of this public awareness campaign, ICNA-KC will have Islamic Billboards at two major highways: I-435 and Birmingham Road and I-435 and N/O 24 Highway. In addition to the billboards, Radio ads will run on KMBZ 980 AM and KCUR 89.3 FM (NPR).

Both billboard ads and radio ads will primarily invite the people to call Gain Peace project’s hotline, 1-800-662-ISLAM, and to visit http://www.gainpeace.com (GAIN PEACE) website to ask questions about Islam. The callers can request a free copy of the English translation of the Quran and other free Islamic literature. The campaign will last during the entire month of Ramadan beginning August 16th 2010.

Islamic Circle of North America, Kansas City Chapter, hopes that this campaign, like the previous outreach campaigns, will encourage our neighbors to call Gain Peace hotline or visit Gain Peace website to clarify their questions and concerns about Islam and Muslims.

There are an estimated 1.5 billion Muslims around the world and 8 million in United States. Muslims believe in the “Oneness of God” and “Prophet Muhammad” as the last Messenger from God. Islamic Circle of North America, parent organization of Gain Peace and Islamic Circle of North America – Kansas City Chapter, is one of the largest, non-profit, independent, and grassroots organization of American Muslims with twenty five chapters and affiliates around the nation. The organization’s mission is to promote proper understanding of Islam and Muslims.

As American Muslims, we wish peace to all the human beings in the world in this sacred month.

Sincerely,
Riyaz M Lareef

Warm clothes drive has been organized from October 29th to November 15th 2010. Muslim community in Kansas City will be donating the warm clothes which will be given away to needy people on November 20th, 2010 near 9th and Harrison.

As a Muslim organization we feel the responsibility to help and support the needy as our religious responsibility as Quran says "(The righteous are those) who feed the poor, the orphan and the captive for the love of God, saying: 'We feed you for the sake of God Alone; we seek from you neither reward nor thanks." (The Holy Quran, 76:8-9)
